Right down my alley...

37 Cherry St. Originally a funk band in the early 70s that had little success, they hit the charts later that decade when they rewrote an earlier song into a disco blockbuster.

Not just a song,...

After posting the song name here, I thought that Soultune, or The Soultunes would work...

Soultune is a contemporary jazz-hip hop group that creates songs of political and social commentary.

The Soultunes started as a 50's Doo Wop group that also had a few small hits with Motown in the 60's.

Kids love the animals...

The Ocelots would corner the very sizable children's music market with songs like Rock-a-lot with The Ocelots, and Ocelot Rock (as posted on the Song Name's blog). Courtesy of my son.

Who sang that...

As I have been posting band names, I realize that they have to sing something... hence, Song Names that Aren't... Or Are They?

My first post was a song that I am positive Donkey Cart (the 60s version, not the Speed Metal version) would have sung--John and I Went to Boston.

A good sound, certainly...

Pure Hi-Fi is a band that would deliver the sound... maybe in the same scene as the Strokes, but a little more experimental.

Now I Know, and it Leads Me to...

In an earlier post, I suggested that Canada Likely would be a good name for a band, but I couldn't figure out when they might have played.

As I was coming to work, I heard a song by
Fountains of Wayne, and it clicked--this is the sort of band that Canada Likely would be.

I also thought that this particular Fountains of Wayne song Hey Julie would be a good name for a band... they would have been playing around the same time as either the Lemonheads or
'Til Tuesday (with Aimee Mann)--completely different times and styles, but they would both work.

The Band that Inspired Nirvana?

Super Potty Mouth... My son's birthday, and this came up... almost, but not quite, as good a name as Hellbilly (an actual Pittsburgh band).

Think Dinosaur Jr. and the like... Super Potty Mouth almost made it to the top... now, that's my band name.
